The Influence of Vertical Thermal and Dissolved Oxygen (DO) Trend on Some Fish Species in Oguta Lake, Niger Delta Basin, Nigeria

Abstract:-
Water samples obtained at various depths with the aid of Reuther probe in Oguta lake over a period of one year were analyzed for their thermal and dissolved oxygen contents using digital meters. The results show that the temperature values range from 22 to 28.4oC. The lowest and highest temperature values were obtained at depths of 7.5 and 2.0 m respectively. Generally , the temperature values were observed to decrease with increase in water depth thus indicating a warmer upper layer (epilimnion} and a colder bottom layer (hypolimnion).The investigation also shows that the concentrations of dissolved oxygen range from 3.7 to 7.2 mg/l with he lowest and highest values obtained at 7.5 and 2.0m respectively. The DO concentrations was observed to decrease with increase in water depth and this indicates an anoxic hypolimnion and oxygen-rich epilimnion. The vertical changes in temperature and dissolved oxygen (DO) of Oguta indicates that it is thermally stratified meromictic and eutrophic. The study indicates that the temperature values at depths of 2.0 and 4.0m respectively are favourable for spawning and egg development of Catfish, Buffalo, Thread thin Shad and Gizzard Shad while the values at 6.0 and 7.5m depths are favourable for the growth of migration routes of Salmonis and egg development of Perch. In terms of fish game activity, Carp and Catfish are most active in the epilimnion and are therefore, susceptible to being caught at this upper water layer. However, Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass and White Bass are susceptible to being caught at the hypolimnion. The concentrations of DO in the hypoliminion indicates slight pollution and this is inimical to survival of aquatic life such as fish.

Design, Modelling & Analytical Analysis of Rotary Fixture for CNC with an Approach of Computer Aided Mass Balancing Method

Abstract:- Various areas related to fixture are already been described by renowned authors, still there is an urgent need to apply all these research works to an industrial application. This paper presents design and development of rotary fixture for machining real industrial component - Flow TEE body of petroleum refinery. Actually HMC is the best solution for performing the required operations, but HMC costs around 12.5 million rupees whereas CNC turning centre costs only about 2.5 million rupees. A fixture is designed with the help of which these operations can now be performed on CNC turning centre and hence 10 million rupees are saved in installation cost. Methodology for mass balance of rotary fixture developed by investigators mostly act as post-mortem tool; calculating unbalanced mass after fixture is manufactured. In the present work, a pre-mortem tool is developed to predict unbalanced mass well before manufacturing. The present research also proposes three alternate methods for mass balancing of rotary fixture using Pro/Mechanism. Analytical calculations is also covered. The paper sets the classical example of integrated approach of design for manufacturing.

Cost Analysis of Anticlastic Shell Roofs

Abstract:- This paper presents the cost analysis of anticlastic shell roofs. Shells are light weight structures with relatively small thickness, usually with no interior columns. The main classification of shells is based on gauss curvature - Synclastic shells and anticlastic shells. Anticlastic shells include hyperbolic paraboloid, conoid, and hyperboloid of revolution of one sheet. This paper focuses on hyperbolic paraboloid. Both reinforced concrete (Inverted Umbrella) and pre-stressed hyperbolic paraboloid shells are compared with conventional grid system. The main objective of this research is to design Prestressed hyperboloid of different geometry (Parabola, circular arc and rectangular hyperbola), Inverted umbrella roof (square) and formulate a comparative cost analysis with grid system. All the designs have been carried out by incorporating the recommendations of IS: 2210-1988 "Criteria for Design of Reinforced concrete shell structures and Folded plates‟, IS: 2204-1962 "Code of Practice for Construction of Reinforced concrete shell roof‟ and IS: 456-2000 "Code of Practice for Plain and Reinforced concrete‟. The cost of shell roof per unit area has been estimated, compared and the most economical configuration has been identified.

Characteristics Optimization of Different Welding Processes on Duplex Stainless Steels Using Statistical Approach and Taguchi Technique - A Review Guide

Abstract:- Material characteristics and welding parameters play a very important role in determining the quality of a weld bead. Duplex stainless steel (DSS) consists of approximately equal proportions of ferrite (δ) and austenite (γ) phases. The DSS joint quality can be defined in terms of mechanical behavior, heat input, heat-cooling rate, weld oxide formation, sigma phase formation in weld metal and base metal. Different welding process is used with the aim of obtained a best welding joint with the desired input parameters, good mechanical properties with minimum defects. Generally welding thermal cycle, dual torch, aging, heat treatment techniques are more influence on quality of weld joint. In order to determine optimize process, design of experiment and computational network are widely using nowadays. A comprehensive review of the application of these techniques in the area of welding on different grades of duplex stainless steel has been introduced here in. This paper was classified according to the output features of the weld i.e. to optimize the mechanical properties by changing the relative amount of ferrite, austenite and martensite content in base metal and weld metal. This review shows many investigations and effects of phase transformation, heat treatment, dual torch technique on duplex stainless steel weldments and examined microstructure analysis at different experimental conditions in order to obtain superior welded joints.

Motion of Robots in a Non Rectangular Workspace

Abstract:- The paper deals with the geometrical aspect of the motion planning of multiple robots in a non rectangular workspace. Motion planning is dynamic in nature which is a property of the decoupled technique. Every robot in the considered workspace is reaching the destination which is a property of the centralized planning approach. The boundary of the non rectangular workspace can be altered and the number of robots in the workspace can be increased or decreased. An attempt is made to utilize the advantages of both centralized and decentralized approach and thereby overcoming to some extent, the limitations of both the approaches. The motion of the robots are purely geometrical and the dynamic aspects in terms of the physical interaction is completely ignored. The number of robots can be added and the boundaries can also be altered without much change in time for reaching the destination of every robot.

MHD Mixed Convective Heat and Mass Transfer Flow of a Visco-Elastic Fluid over a Stretching Sheet with Chemical Reaction and Temperature Gradient Dependent Heat Sink

Abstract:- The effect of chemical reaction on mixed convective flow with heat and mass transfer of a visco-elastic in- compressible Walter's liquid B' model and electrically conducting fluid over a stretching sheet with temperature gradient dependent heat sink in heat transfer and chemical reaction in mass transfer are investigated in a saturated porous medium in the presence of a constant transverse magnetic field. The non-linear boundary layer equations with corresponding boundary conditions are converted into a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations by similarity transformations. Further the similarity equations are solved numerically by using fourth order Runge-kutta method via shooting technique. Numerical results of the skin friction co-efficient, local Nusselt number Nu, local Shrewood number Sh as well as various temperature and concentration profiles are presented for various values of physical parameters like permeability parameter, visco-elastic parameter, magnetic parameter, Prandtl number and Schmidt number respectively.

Design and Simulation of DC-DC Converter Used in Solar Charge Controllers

Abstract:- With the increasing Energy demand Conservation and effective Utilisation of Energy are very essential. Solar Charge Controllers helps in increasing the efficiency of the solar power transferred to the Battery. It consists of mainly Dc-Dc Converters. These Converters are mostly Dc Choppers which converts fixed Dc voltage to a variable Dc source. These Regulators are used in case of Solar Charge Controllers to increase or decrease the PV panel voltage to as that required by Battery. The DC voltage from the PV panel varies with the light intensity which depends on time of day and temperature. Similarly on the Battery side the voltage varies depending on the load connections. Thus for optimal charging of battery it is important that the voltage of the PV panel and the current matches the battery charging state at any instant. There are various types of Dc-Dc Converter of which Buck Boost Converter is taken into consideration. This paper shows all the Design calculations and simulation results of a Buck-Boost converter as depending on the weather condition the Solar Charge Controller will take the voltage input from the Solar PV panel and convert it to that required for optimal charging of battery.

Influence of Interference of Symmetrical Footings on Bearing Capacity of Soil

Abstract:- The bearing capacity and load-settlement behavior of footings from the isolated footing condition to the interference of adjoining footing is of major concern due to increase in urbanization and industrialization of cites. In the present study, an attempt has been made to model the settlement behavior of two footings placed with varying spacing on single layered soil deposit. The study revealed the interference affect the ultimate bearing capacity of adjoining footings. The ultimate bearing capacity was found to be influenced by its spacing. The ultimate bearing capacity of footings increased with decrease in spacing between the footings. The settlement of footings due to interference was found to be increased with decrease in spacing.

The Commemorate Service Planning with Assistance-Oriented Architecture

Abstract:- As the market evolves, businesses are faced with a saturated market, shorter product life span, and consumer's demand for differentiation. In order to stay competitive, businesses must provide different services and offer packaged services to increase product value. Most funeral services are dull and monotonous in style. The overall service is not flexible and lacks choice to customization. Therefore, a funeral service design system that can customize funeral process and venue decoration would offer customers a better choice, hence meet their demand. During the funeral service, the food offered to the deceased is decided by the service provider, which limits the selection and has little flexibility in choice. Also, the traditional funeral service is held in accordance to the so-called "suitable date" on traditional Lunar Calendar. Therefore, it's inevitable to have more than one service to be hold on the same date at the same place. With the number of attendance and the expected amount of parking demand, sometimes the venue's own parking lot may not be large enough to take on the demand. Hence, the attendants have to spend extra time and effort in search for a parking space elsewhere. In response to these issues, the research will focus on the construction of venue design system, food offering management system, GPS parking management system, and the consolidation between the three systems. By adopting features of service-Oriented architecture (SOA) and the consolidation of the three service systems, it is believed that such structure will become the key for funeral service providers to stay ahead in the industry.

Speed Sensor less Control and Estimation Based on Mars for Pmsm under Sudden Load Change

Abstract:- Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) are appropriate for applications with load-independent speeds or synchronous operation with high accuracy under defined speed. In this paper analysis the structure and equations of the PMSM, direct torque control (DTC) and voltage space vector process then study model reference adaptive system (MRAS) estimators. The PI controller uses from estimate speed feedback and do the speed sensor less control of PMSM based on DTC method with MRAS. The simulation results show that the speed of rotor estimates with high precision and torque response is considerably fast. Principle of rotor speed and and position for PMSM by MARS is given, simulation models are made. Dynamic estimation performances are different under sudden load change, which depends mainly on system structure and PI controller performance
