Spatial Patterns of Urban Air Pollution in an Industrial Estate, Lagos, Nigeria

Abstract:-
This study investigated the distribution of SO2, NO2, PM10, CO, H2S, CH4 and noise in ambient air of Tin-Can port industrial estate Apapa, Lagos, Nigeria. Measurement was carried out at seven selected sampling sites in the months of October and November 2011. As a general finding, the selected air pollutant concentrations for SO2 and NO2 exceeded the USEPA national ambient air quality standards indicating traffic emissions and industrial sources. A statistical analysis using principal component analysis revealed that PC1 had high contributions from SO2, CO, H2S, Noise and moderate contribution from PM10(38.92 %) and was strongly associated with fossil fuel combustion, industrial sources and some non-road diesel equipment releasing sulphur dioxide into the air. PC2 was heavily enriched with NO2 (18.84 %) and was attributed to emissions from vehicles such as buses, vans, taxis, cars, motorcycles and trucks. Cluster analysis (CA) revealed two subgroups: Cluster 1 (NO2), Cluster 2 (SO2, CO, H2S), which agree with the PCA results. Our results suggest that appropriate vehicle emission management coupled with industrial air pollution control should be applied to coarse particulate (PM10) and gaseous pollutants in the study area.

Ofdm Detection on Umts Utra-Fdd up-Link and Implementation of the Modulator/ Demodulator by Ifft/ Fft Algorithms

Abstract:- In [1], we had applied OFDM modulation on UMTS UTRA-FDD up-link for multiplexing the physical data channels of a same mobile. We had given the expression of the OFDM signal emitted by a mobile having to send simultaneously K data symbols by channel for a total of N channels. In this paper, because the OFDM symbols was formed by chip time in [1], we process then the demodulation by chip time of the OFDM signal in [1] after its crossing of a perfect (without noise) frequency selective mobile radio channel. For that purpose, we give at first in the second section: the received OFDM signal expression, the integral expression to be calculated to demodulate the sent information about an any channel q, and the operation to do for obtaining the useful information about this channel q knowing its frequency response. It is however necessary to note that the OFDM modulation principle adopted in [1] and the OFDM demodulation principle adopted in this paper at the second section, leads to conceive a system with N individual modulators and N individual demodulators. Afterward, with the aim of proposing for the UMTS UTRA-FDD up-link a less complex OFDM modulation/OFDM demodulation system, we have in this paper at the third section, implemented the OFDM modulator and demodulator with the IFFT and FFT algorithms. Finally we simulated the received OFDM signals for the OFDM symbols specified in the fourth section and the received symbols on every channel after sampling of the two first received OFDM signals corresponding to the two first emitted OFDM symbols.

Geophysical Investigation of Groundwater Potential in Ahmadu Bello University (Abu) Farm Area

Abstract:- Hydrogeophysical investigation was carried out in Ahmadu Bello University Farm Area. The results obtain from the field were converted to response curves; depth of penetration of current to layers, resistivities, thicknesses, and groundwater potential were deduced. Water potential in the area shows three unit of water system at various depths (10 meter. 42 meter, and 82 meter). The apparent resistivity values ranges from as low as 29 ohm meter to as high as 25,027 ohm meter. This is an indication that some area might be clay formation while other areas are highly consolidated. IXID curve modeling of the area reveal 6–7 lithologic sequences with various thicknesses consisting of Top soil, Sandy clay, Fine to Medium sand, Coarse sand, Weathered Basement, Fractured Basement, and Fresh Basement. Water bearing zones are within the third to sixth lithologic layer; this is due to the moderate resistivity values obtain. The lithostratigraphy controls the occurrence, type, and behaviour of the aquifer units in the area. Three aquifer systems were demarcated from the lithologic sequences: Soft Overburden Aquifer, Weathered Aquifer, and Structural Controlled Aquifer. The three aquifer unit flows through a ground channel to River Shika. The Soft Overburden Aquifer towards the Kubanni Dam was divided to three members; Fine grained sand, Medium grained sand, and Coarse grained sand. The groundwater in the members flows towards the Kubanni Reservoirs. Their water level varies with regional rainfall as input and output (recharge and evaporation). The three aquifer type (Soft Overburden, Weathered, and Fractured Aquifer) of the area depict varied water potential form one spot to another.

Image Compression Techniques: A Survey

Abstract:- The increasing attractiveness and trust on digital photography has given rise to its use for visual communication. It requires storage of large quantities of data. Due to limited bandwidth and storage capacity, images must be compressed before storing and transmitting. Many techniques are available for compressing the images. But in some cases these techniques will reduce the quality and originality of image. Some traces like blocking artifacts, transformation fingerprints etc are also introduced in to the reconstructed image as a result of compression. It mainly affect the medical imaging by reducing the fidelity and there by introducing diagnostic errors. Many hybrid techniques are also developed to overcome these problems. This paper addresses various compression techniques as it is applicable to various fields of image processing.

On The Efficacy of Activated Carbon Derived From Bamboo in the Adsorption of Water Contaminants

Abstract:- A comparison of adsorption efficiency of the three Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) produced from waste Nigerian Bamboo at different level of activation in a fixed adsorption bed is reported. Bamboo carbonization was done at temperature range of 200-4000c and chemically activated at 4000c with chloride salt at percentage range of 0-20%. The 0, 10 and 20% level activation were selected for water treatment and comparison, based on surface pore area and pore space. There are noticeable differences in adsorptive capacity as well as time interval to attain a fixed level of contaminant removal. The 10% is more effective in adsorption of physical and biological pollutant parameters as compared to 0 and 20%. The raw water passed through the fixed bed was treated effectively with effluent conforming to established standards. The GAC produced from Nigerian bamboo has been established to have maximum adsorptive capacity within 24 hours of use and can reduce effectively most organic and inorganic contaminants found in surface water.

Reduction of audio acoustic in Audio-visual transceiving with single port

Abstract:- In our day to day life we come across various challenges in communication. The communication is supposed to be complete only when an audio visualization is available, this can be achieved with audio visual communication. For audio visual communication a costly video-conferencing option is available for a small scale enterprise this cost is not affordable for internal communication. This paper deals with techno-economic remedy for mentioned problem by using single wireless transceiving port. When transceiving process is carried out an audio-acoustic effect hampers the communication quality. This paper further focuses on use of acoustic reduction circuitry which reduces the audio-acoustics (Larsen effect) caused as a result of single port transceivers.

Survey the Obstacles of Establishment of Suggestions System from Employee's View

Abstract:- Suggestions system is one of the new cooperative management plans that effects an making decision, self confidence and employees occupational approval. The aim of this research is survey the obstacles of establishment of suggestions system from employees view (case study: Kermanshah province ministry of Education),It is descriptive and surveying research, we used of methodologies such as library studies and area studies for fulfilling of this research, that its statistical society is all of the employees, also we were used of kokaran sampling method and had chosen 195 people as statistical sample which were answered the questionnaire, and also for factors ranking had been used of freedman method, the most important obstacles of establishment of suggestions system is arising from the employees, and lack of exact survey, efficient employees in executive committee and nonpayment reward to suggestion are the most important systemic obstacles of establishment of suggestions system, and lack of managers riskiness, managers believe to suggestions system and conflict in managing methods are the most important managing obstacle of establishment of suggestions system, the extent of department. Complexity of systemic duties and inattentive to managing are the most important cultural obstacles of establishment of suggestions system, and the most important obstacles is rising from the employees.

Effects of addition of BaTiO3 Nano particles on the conductivity of PVdF/PMMA based polymer blend electrolytes

Abstract:- Composite polymer electrolyte (CPE) membranes, comprising poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVdF)/poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), BaTiO3 as ceramic filler and LiBF4 as the lithium salt were prepared using a solution casting technique. The prepared membranes were subjected to XRD, FT-IR, impedance spectroscopy and thermal stability studies. The incorporation of nanofiller greatly enhanced the ionic conductivity and the thermal stability of the composite polymer electrolyte. Polymer blend electrolyte with 15 wt% of BaTiO3 ceramic powder exhibited higher ionic conductivity (1.335 x 10-3 S/cm) compared to the other ratios.

Fingerprint-Iris Fusion Based Multimodal Biometric System Using Single Hamming Distance Matcher

Abstract:- In the real world applications, unimodal biometric systems often face limitations because of sensitivity to noise, intra class invariability,data quality, and other factors. Improving the performance of individual matchers in the aforementioned situation may not be effective. Multi biometric systems are used to overcome this problem by providing multiple pieces of evidence of the same identity. This system provides effective fusion scheme that combines information provided by the multiple domain experts based on score-level fusion method, thereby increasing the efficiency which is not possible in unimodal system.In this paper, we have proposedthe development of a fingerprint and iris fusion system which utilizes a single Hamming Distance based matcher to provide higher accuracy than the individual unimodal system.
