Spatial Analysis for Urban development between "1990-2010" in city of Sulaimani, Kurdistan Region-Iraq

Abstract:The spatial and temporal information on land cover provides a fundamental dataset for urban ecological developments and measurement studies. The hypothesis of this study involves looking into a particular period of time to evaluate the amount of urban expansion that occurred during a twenty year period. This aim can easily be achieved using the technology available with different Landsat satellite images, as professional systems permit the integration of remotely sensed data with other sources of geo-referenced information. This will be used to gain superior classification accuracy for the urban expansion of one Iraqi city located in the Kurdistan Region. The intended city is Sulaimani city, as it has developed rapidly over recent decades and especially after Operation Freedom in 2003. Nonetheless, the change in urbanisation needs to be measured, and this is not an easy task to achieve with a lack of technology.
A. This study focuses on providing answers to the questions surrounding Sulaimani city's urban development using the capability of spatial analysis techniques to provide the outcomes. The study has used three satellite images taken ten years apart from each other for the period of twenty years between 1990 and 2010. Then these images have been processed and analysed to discover urbanisation measures such as to what extent the city expanded during the period; where the locations of the developments are situated, and moreover, why different types of developments occurred at different times.

Image compression using EZW encoding

Abstract:
With the increase in the demand for remote area applications the need for accurate and high-speed data transmission is increasing. The available resources are getting constrained for such a service requirements. One such advanced service which demands both accuracy with speed of operation is telemedicine applications. In such application the medical images could be forwarded through wired or wireless network for remote monitoring. To improve the performance of such system JPEG committee have come out with higher resolution compression architecture called JPEG2000. The JPEG2000 coding system uses wavelet transform which decomposes the image into different levels where the coefficient in each sub band are uncorrelated from coefficient other sub bands as a result the coefficient in each sub band can be quantized independently of coefficient in other sub band with no significant loss in performance, but the coefficient in each sub band requires different amount of bit resources to obtain best coding performance [8]. A hierarchical coding algorithm called Embedded Zero tree wavelet coding is proposed which exploits the multi-resolution properties of the wavelet transform to give a computationally simple algorithm with better performance compared to existing wavelet transform[6]. This coding finds the co relational properties of each band and eliminate the coefficients from each band as per their significance.

Enhanced Software Based Traffic Generator

Abstract:
This Paper provides an overview of the limitations imposed by software based traffic generator used to generate packet on the type of hardware as well as on the latency the operating system create for transmitting a packet. The paper also explains various stages through which a packet flows from the user-space until it is transmitted out from the hardware. Also discusses the architecture, design, implementation and performance between the socket type PF_PACKET, which is used by kernel based traffic generator PKTGEN to generate packets/traffic, also by most of software based traffic generators and a newly created socket type PF_ZERO, whose purpose is for traffic generation better than PF_PACKET by providing a way to generate higher traffic rates when compared to the existing mechanisms.

Modeling the dynamics of molecular concentration during the diffusion procedure

Abstract:
In this paper, a numerical method is proposed to solving a reaction-diffusion system. The systems describe the solid state reaction mechanism of all the reaction components at the preparatory stage of yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) in one dimension. Kansa's method and forward Euler method are employed to discrete the spatial variable and time respectively.

Human-Oriented Interaction with an Anthropomorphic Robot

Abstract:
A very important aspect in developing robots capable of human-robot interaction (HRI) is the research in natural, human-like communication, and subsequently, the development of a research platform with multiple HRI capabilities for evaluation. Besides a flexible dialog system and speech understanding, an an-thropomorphic appearance has the potential to support intuitive usage and understanding of a robot, e.g .. human-like facial expressions and deictic gestures can as well be produced and also understood by the robot. As a consequence of our effort in creating an anthropomorphic appearance and to come close to a human--human interaction model for a robot, we decided to use human-like sensors, i.e., two cameras and two microphones only, in analogy to human perceptual capabilities too. Despite the challenges resulting from these limits with respect to perception, a robust attention system for tracking and interacting with multiple persons simultaneously in real time is presented. The tracking approach is sufficiently generic to work on robots with varying hardware, as long as stereo audio data and images of a video camera are available. To easily implement different interaction capabilities like deictic gestures, natural adaptive dialogs, and emotion awareness on the robot, we apply a modular integration approach utilizing XML-based data exchange. The paper focuses on our efforts to bring together different interaction concepts and perception capabilities integrated on a humanoid robot to achieve comprehending human-oriented interaction.

Modelling, Simulation and Performance Analysis of A Variable Frequency Drive in Speed Control Of Induction Motor

Abstract:
The need for variable speed of an ac induction motor arises in certain industrial applications and this is often difficult to achieve because induction motors are of fixed speed. The available control techniques such as variation of supply voltage, variation of number of poles, are characterized by low efficiency and high maintenance cost. The improvement in power electronics technology through advancements in semi-conductor electronic devices with increased reliability and reduced cost led to the development of modern solid-state variable frequency motor drive which is an electronic device capable of controlling the speed of an induction motor by varying the frequency with increased efficiency, reliability and low maintenance cost. This paper carried out the modelling, simulation and performance analysis of such a variable frequency drive using matlab /simulink model. It successfully achieved the control of the speed of the induction motor from zero to the nominal speed by varying the frequency of the applied ac voltage using pulse width modulation method.

Product Planning & Development of Y-Type Strainer Used In Thermal Power Plant and Process Plant

Abstract: The relevance of product innovations and new product development for the Competitive performance of firms and for the long-term economic growth is a known and recognized topic. In the context of the power plant & process industry, process and product innovations are usually the result of cross-discipline ideas, involving, for instance, biology, chemistry, technology, engineering, nutrition and law. This paper presents a quantifying and reordering method for new product development based on the concurrent engineering concept. We can realize deeply the inner hierarchy workings of concurrent engineering in the new product development process. The purpose of this paper is to develop a dynamic planning method that is innovative, efficient and flexible for new product development by using the concurrent design concept. It ultimately helpful to designers and managers to grasp the interactive information flow between each of the activity factors for planning an optimum design process in new product development. One case study is employed to illustrate this method and the results validate that it can reduce the iterations of design process and shorten the product development time with cost effectiveness.

Automatic Movement of Fire Brigade to Emergency Spot- An Intelligent Transport System

Abstract: Now a day the fire accidents rate has been increasing day to day. Moreover emergency in the city have been increased and to bar the loss of life due to the fire accidents is more crucial. To implement this we introduce a scheme called AMFBVS(Automatic Movement of Fire Brigade Vehicle System).The main theme behind this scheme is to provide a smooth flow for the fire brigade vehicle to reach the accident spot in time and thus minifying the expiration. The idea behind this scheme is to implement an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) which would control the traffic lights in the path of the Fire brigade. The Fire Brigade is controlled by the central unit which furnishes the most scant route to the Fire Brigade and also controls the traffic light according to the Fire Brigade location and thus reaching the accident place safely. The server determines the location of the accident spot; through the sensor systems in the vehicle/fire brigade, the server using shortest path method can guide the Fire Brigade to the accident spot. This scheme can be automated and can help the vehicle to find the correct path for movement of fire brigade to accident spot by controlling the traffic lights.

Utilization of Bio-Solid Waste to Partially Tackle Electric Power Shortage in the Gaza Strip

Abstract:
Bio-solid waste is one of the most important sources of alternative energy worldwide. However, in the Gaza Strip, Bio-solid waste and Bio-solid waste in particular is considered as a substantial environmental and financial problem. This includes the problem of contaminated gas emissions and toxic substances leaking from Bio-solid waste. The financial costs of waste management pose another problem including the cost of waste collection, transfer and burn. Such problems are caused by not following the right and professional methods in waste collection, sorting and recycling Given that Bio-solid waste production in the Gaza Strip is very high (60-70% of total bio-waste) [1], this study considers solutions to the environmental and financial issues related to Bio-solid waste management in the Gaza Strip. It is very important to raise the awareness of individuals in dealing with such waste in the most efficient way. This involves all the stages of waste management starting at proper sorting up to the full exploitation of all waste processing outcomes. This includes exploiting gas emissions in cooking or burning it to generate electricity. In addition, Methane gas generated from the deposits of bio-waste is considered as one of the best fertilizers in agriculture.

Compressive Strength of Medium Strength M30 Grade Self Compacting Concrete Using Water Retaining Curing Techniques

Abstract:
Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) is highly workable concrete with high strength and high performance that can flow under its own weight through restricted sections without segregation and bleeding. SCC is achieved by reducing the volume ratio of aggregate to cementitious materials, increasing the paste volume and using various viscosity enhancing admixtures and superplasticizers. It is observed that the behaviour of the design concrete mix is significantly affected by variation in humidity and temperature both in fresh and hardened state. In this paper effect of few water retaining curing techniques on compressive strength of M30 grade self-compacting concrete (SCC) is discussed. It is observed that polyethylene film curing gives very good compressive strength at 28 days about 95% of strength achieved through immersion method for curing; however early age compressive strength of specimens cured polyethylene film is more than immersion method. Curing compound method delivers about 92% compressive strength than immersion method, while the lowest compressive strength is for dry curing.
