Performance Investigation of a Monopolar HVDC Transmission System Feeding a Weak AC Network

Abstract: This paper investigates the performance of line commutated converter (LCC) based monopolar HVDC transmission system feeding a weak AC network with hybrid reactive power compensators (RPC's) at the inverter AC side. The hybrid compensator is an equal mix of any two of the following compensators: synchronous compensator (SC); static var compensator (SVC); static synchronous compensator (STATCOM). The HVDC transmission system model is implemented in the Matlab with the firefly algorithm based optimal proportional integral (PI) controller for rectifier and inverter control. The transient performances of hybrid RPC's (SC+SVC, SVC+STATCOM and SC+STATCOM) are judged under various fault conditions and the outcomes are compared with the performance of the SC, SVC and STATCOM to highlight the supremacy of the hybrid compensators. The simulation results validate that the equal mix of SC and STATCOM has a steady and fastest response. The results also demonstrate the superiority of the firefly algorithm based optimal PI controller over the conventional PI controller. The harmonic analysis is also carried out under steady state operation to assure the quality of power supply on the inverter AC side.

Improved Hybrid Behavior Ant Colony Algorithm to Solve the Vehicle Routing Problem

Abstract: Vehicle routing problem is a NP-hard problem, with the expansion of problem solving more difficult. This paper proposes a hybrid behavior based on ant colony algorithm to solve the problem, ant to different objectives in the first place as the path selection according to the analysis of the impact on the algorithm, then define the ant behavior and design four concrete ant behavior by selecting different ways of ant behavior to form different improved algorithm. Finally, experimental results show that the improved algorithm can solve vehicle routing problems quickly and effectively.

Effect of Benzoylation on Properties of Acid Dyes Derived from H-Acid on Nylon 6. 6

Abstract: Twelve dyes were synthesized by diazotizing six primary aromatic amines, which were subsequently coupled with H-acid(1-napthol-8-amino-3,6-disulphonic acid).Each of these amines wasalso diazotized and coupled with abenzoylated H-acid.The colours obtained were mainly pink, red and orange. The various dyes synthesized were applied onto a Nylon 6.6. The molecular weights of the dyes, as well as their molar extinction coefficients were calculated and their solubility in water was determined. Their maximum absorption wavelength was measured in water. The fastness properties of the dyes were also investigated. They had good fastness properties.Benzoylated acid dyes give brighter shades and high wet fastness properties on nylon 6.6, due to their high molecular weight. They also have good exhaustion properties.

Supercapacitors: the near Future of Batteries

Abstract: Supercapacitors or EDLCs (i.e. electric double-layer capacitors) or ultra-capacitors are becoming increasingly popular as alternatives for the conventional and traditional battery sources. This brief overview focuses on the different types of supercapacitors, the relevant quantitative modeling areas and the future of supercapacitor research and development. Supercapacitors may emerge as the solution for many application-specific power systems. Especially, there has been great interest in developing supercapacitors for electric vehicle hybrid power systems, pulse power applications, as well as back-up and emergency power supplies. Because of their flexibility, however, supercapacitors can be adapted to serve in roles for which electrochemical batteries are not as well suited. Also, supercapacitors have some intrinsic characteristics that make them ideally suited to specialized roles and applications that complement the strengths of batteries. In particular, supercapacitors have great potential for applications that require a combination of high power, short charging time, high cycling stability and long shelf life. So, let's just begin the innovative journey of these near future of life-long batteries that can charge up almost anything and everything within a few seconds!

Honey Pot Intrusion Detection System

Abstract: Cyber Warfare is the current single greatest emerging threat to National Security. Network security has become an essential component of any computer network. As computer networks and systems become ever more fundamental to modern society, concerns about security has become increasingly important. There are a multitude of different applications open source and proprietary available for the protection +-system administrator, to decide on the most suitable format for their purpose requires knowledge of the available safety measures, their features and how they affect the quality of service, as well as the kind of data they will be allowing through un flagged. A majority of methods currently used to ensure the quality of a networks service are signature based. From this information, and details on the specifics of popular applications and their implementation methods, we have carried through the ideas, incorporating our own opinions, to formulate suggestions on how this could be done on a general level. The main objective was to design and develop an Intrusion Detection System. While the minor objectives were to; Design a port scanner to determine potential threats and mitigation techniques to withstand these attacks. Implement the system on a host and Run and test the designed IDS. In this project we set out to develop a Honey Pot IDS System.
