Pozzolana and Palm Kernel Shells as Replacements of Portland cement and Crushed Granite in Concrete
Daniel Yaw Osei

Abstract:
The properties of concrete using pozzolana and palm kernel shells as replacement of portland cement and crushed granite were investigated. Twelve concrete mixes were produced by combining pozzolana and palm kernel shells (PKS) to replace 10%, 20%, 30% and 40% of portland cement and 20%, 30% and 40% crushed granite respectively in a 1:2:4 control mix. The workabilities of the fresh concrete mixes were evaluated using the compacting factor test. The compressive strengths and densities were evaluated at 7days, 14 days and 28 days. The density and workability of concrete decreased as the pozzolana and palm kernel shells content increased; however the maximum strength at each palm kernel shell replacement was reached at 20% pozzolana replacement. The 28-day compressive strength ranged from 8.01Nmm-2 to 14.21Nmm-2, whereas the density ranged between 2163kgm-3 to 2317 kgm-3. The effects of pozzolana and PKS on the density and workability of concrete were similar, however their effects of the strength of concrete were remarkably different. Pozzolana and PKS can be used as partial replacement of portland cement and crushed granite in the production of lightweight concrete.

Ahmed Mohamady, Abu-Bakr M. Elhady, Mohamed S. Eisa

Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the effect of using steel wire grid reinforcement on the performance of pavement sections. The reinforced pavement sections are modeled and analyzed using two-dimensional finite elements method. Study was using the ADINA finite element program. In this study three paving sections were analyzed. The first section represents one of the commonly sections used in the paving of local roads, the second section is commonly used in expressways and the third section is used in freeways. The reinforcement was arranged at different depths. Steel wire grid reinforced sections results are compared to geosynthetics grid reinforced sections as well as typical rigid pavement section commonly used in Egypt. The analysis showed that the best location of reinforcement is at bottom of base layer in all investigated pavement sections. Comparisons show that steel mesh reinforced sections performance improved than geosynthetics grid reinforced sections and almost close to rigid section.

Tran Dinh Huy, Ngo Cao Cuong, Nguyen Thanh Phuong

Abstract:
Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motors are widely used for high performance control applications. Conventional PID controller only provides satisfactory performance for set-point regulation. In this paper, a discrete time optimal tracking control of BLDC motor is presented. Modeling of the BLDC motor is expressed in state equation. A discrete time full-order state observer is designed to observe states of BLDC motor. Feedback gain matrix of the observer is obtained by pole assignment method using Ackermann formulation with observability matrix. The state feedback variables are given by the state observer. A discrete time LQ optimal tracking control of the BLDC motor system is constructed to track the angle of rotor of the BLDC motor to the reference angle based on the designed observer. Numerical and experimental results are shown to prove that the performance of the proposed controller.

Supervised Approach to Extract Sentiments from Unstructured Text
Mrs. G. L. Swathi Mirthika, Mrs. S. Yamini

Abstract:
Sentiment Analysis is a two level task. The first one is Identifying Topic and the second is, classifying sentiment related to that topic. Sentiment Analysis starts with "What other people thinks?". Sentiment Extraction deals with the retrieval of the opinion or mood conveyed in a block of Unstructured text in relation to the domain of the document being analyzed. Although a lot of research has gone in the NLP, machine learning and web mining community on extracting structured data from unstructured sources, most of the4 proposed methods depend on tediously labeled unstructured data. The World Wide Web has been dominated by unstructured content and searching the web has been based on techniques from Information Retrieval. Supervised learning algorithm analyzes the training data and produces an inferred function which is called classification.

D. I. Jwanbot, M. M. Izam, G. G. Nyam

Abstract:
Electricity is one of the special services desired by man in any community. There have been suggestions that the electric and magnetic fields created by electric power lines may be harmful to health. In this paper, the radiation levels around electric power lines environment were measured using gamma scout. It is a digitalized, portable device that measures radiation in Sv /hr. The results obtained which ranged from (0.2-0.48) Sv /hr for 330kV, (0.16-0.45) Sv /hr for 132kV, (0.13- 0.40)Sv /hr for 33kV, (0.08-0.38) Sv /hr for 0.415kV and (0.1-0.35)Sv /hr for free zone. This showed that some of the values obtained were more than 20 × 10-8Gy/hr (0.20Sv /hr ) which according to IAEA was the minimum standard for radiation to cause health hazard. There is a strong indication that health hazards may be manifested after a long period of time on the people living close to the power lines since from the result obtained, it showed that the cumulative radiation levels effects increased with time.

Festus Evly R. I. Liow, Achmad Wicaksono, Zetly Tamod, Marno Soemarno

Abstract:
The increasing amount of population along with variuos activities in Tomohon City causes the amount of waste to increase. Therefore, it requires the performance study of waste management. This research aims to analyze the waste management performance against production volume and waste service reach, normative standard, and public perception or opinion in Tomohon City. The research method utilizes action research approach, combined with observation based data collection and solid inteview. As for society perception study, sample determination uses Stratified Random Sampling from Slovin formula. Sample dispersion to acquire data from respondent is performed by sampling incidental. The research outcome shows that waste production in Tomohon , based on total residents, reaches 236,55 m3/day while the ideal waste service rate supposedly transported for residential area and non residential area is 129,11 m3/day. transported waste up to now reaches 78 m3/day, therefore the performance of waste management only reaches 60,41%. Analysis of personnel and devices of waste management shows imbalance out of existing condition and analysis outcome. According to public opinion, waste management performance analysis is less favorable, unsuitable to public expectation and satisfaction. Waste management performance according to public perception is at the average score of 2,47. This matter shows that the performance of waste management is yet entirely effective. Low waste management performance is caused by less optimized waste transporting devices, very few waste collector force, and quite a number of society members paying less concern toward waste management.

Swathikiran S., Sajith Sethu P.

Abstract:
Detection and tracking of humans in a video has great potential applications. The paper proposes a novel scheme for performing automated human detection and tracking in videos. The method consist of two steps namely, motion detection and human – non human classification. Motion detection is done by performing background subtraction. The background model is generated using a mixture of Gaussian distributions. The human – non human classification is done by generating the feature vector from the local binary pattern of segmented regions. A radial basis function based support vector machine is used for classification. The proposed scheme was tested on some test videos and was able to detect and track human figures with acceptable accuracy.

An Improved- SPIN Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks
Shanti, k sujatha,k mahesh

Abstract:
In Wireless Sensor Networks(WSN) data transmission is one the major challenges and a number of routing protocols have been proposed to cope up with this problem by saving energy during transmission. Routing protocols that performs in-network aggregation are best suited for this purpose to yield energy saving Data Transmission. In this paper we are proposing an improved version of M-SPIN protocol named "I-SPIN" protocol. Our protocol aims at disseminating data to the sink node through shortest path in such a way that the load is uniformly distributed among all the nodes lying in the path and hence the probability of the nodes of being dead is almost same. Thus we don‟t have to calculate the shortest path as frequently as in M-SPIN protocol and all the sensor nodes in the network are utilized almost equally. Also I-SPIN protocol is more reliable than M-SPIN because the decay time of the sensor nodes is increased

Tiwary, B rajeshwar, D matsyagiri

Abstract:
The main objective of our project is to design a 32 bit Arithmetic Logic Unit which is a digital circuit that performs arithmetic and logical operations using VHDL. The ALU is a fundamental building block of the central processing unit (CPU) of a computer, and even the simplest microprocessors contain one for purposes such as maintaining timers. The processors found inside modern CPUs and graphics processing units (GPUs) accommodate very powerful and very complex ALUs; a single component may contain a number of ALUs. This behavioral design can be made synthesizable and thus can be used for layout and fabrication on FPGA based digital circuits.
